The internet is chock full of illegitimate sites that are looking to scam you, collect your email address and information for nefarious reasons, and masquerade as something they are not. One of the biggest online scams at the moment is predicated on using your love of animals against you. These fraudulent sites position themselves as petitions to help a worthy cause. You sign up and fork over your email address, which they sell to the highest bidder… And all of a sudden you start getting all kinds of strange emails trying to sell you things you don’t need.

Here’s a list of the scam petitions currently going around, courtesy of The Monsters Among Us:

So, in the future, just be skeptical of any kind of form online that asks for your email address. If in doubt, always go to Google and search their web address and see what comes up. Usually illegitimate sites will have some negative postings about it being a scam that will appear in the search results.

Not everything is what it appears to be… And that goes double on the internet!

Have you been scammed before?
