This Wasn’t Just a Regular Day at the Market
Footage of a woman who collapsed and began convulsing in a supermarket has sent social media into a frenzy with some suggesting she was possessed by a demon.
The video shows a woman walking along a shopping aisle in China when a package began shaking on a shelf and fell to the floor.
“I didn’t really notice anything was amiss until she began moaning,” said foreign exchange student Ashley McCain. “I was just perusing the aisles, doing a little shopping between classes.”
Ashley had been in Shanghai, China for 6 months as part of an student exchange program to learn Mandarin and international business practices.
“The culture over there is very different from the United States,” she said. “There are Buddhist monasteries, Taoist shrines, and Han temples. Most people have a traditional belief in supernatural forces and spirits. Coming from the West, a lot of that was foreign to me.”
Ashley never expected to witness what she believes to be a case of spirit possession.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that’s what it was,” Ashley confirmed. “The store surveillance footage is impressive, but I was actually there. I know what happened.”
In the footage, the unidentified woman can be seen picking up the product and placing it back on the shelf.
“That’s when things started getting freaky,” said Ashely. “There was this feeling in the store. Every hair on my arms and the back of my neck began to stand up. And there was this electrical smell in the air.”
The 22-year-old still gets goosebumps even thinking about the event that shook her faith in scientific materialism.
“I grew up Catholic, but I’ve always been more inclined to trust rationality and the scientific method,” she said. “Unless I could see it or touch it, I just didn’t think it existed. I know now there’s more to the world than what meets the eye.”
When the woman placed the item back on the shelf, she suddenly dropped her belongings and began convulsing before falling to her knees.
According to Ashley, that’s when “all hell broke loose…”
